Former Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Issam Fares stated that the despicable terrorist crime that claimed the life of Gebran Tueini does not only affect his person, ‘An Nahar’ newspaper, and the Parliament, but also targets the values of freedom, democracy, and justice that the great martyr had been one of its distinguished symbols, as well as one of its heroic, brave knights. We had enough condemnations, denunciations, and decrials! We demand an immediate investigation into the assassination, as well as the unveiling of the culprits’ identity and their trial.

We also call upon the Government to face this perilous event with a maximum degree of seriousness, resolve, and responsibility, and to undertake the appropriate procedures and measures at this critical and volatile conjuncture.

Mr. Fares went on saying, ‘I do not only present my condolences to Siham, Ghassan, the family, ‘An Nahar’ newspaper, and the Lebanese Parliament, but also to ourselves for this horrible tragedy that had affected us all. Gebran’s loss is not only a personal loss for me since I consider him as one of my sons, but also a national irreparable loss.

May the soul of our dear martyr rest in peace, and may the nation be protected from the evil forces jeopardizing it.
