Short Bio:
Nicholas Hopton has been Deputy Director and Head of the International Organisations Department at the FCO since April 2008. He has particular expertise in international, EU and security policy. He joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1989 and was posted to Rabat (1991-95), Rome (2000-2003) and Paris, where he was Counsellor for EU and Economic Affairs (2003-2007) working closely with the French President and Prime Minister’s offices. In London he has worked in No 10 Downing Street and also led the team producing the UK’s first National Security Strategy White Paper in the Cabinet Office. Previously, he was Private Secretary to four Ministers for Europe in the FCO (1998-2000).
