Pénélope Larzillière is a sociologist and Senior Research Fellow at the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD-Paris). She is also advisor to the Fondation – Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (FMSH-Paris). Larzillière works on ideology, norms and political commitment with a focus on the Middle East, and recently security norms in development policies. Her recent publications include Faut-il désoccidentaliser l’humanitaire? (edited with P. Micheletti, Humanitaire, 2010), Protest and Liberal Authoritarianism (Mouvements, 2011), “Analyser les attentats-suicides: rationalité, genre
